The Emergency Repair Program of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) assists rural homeowners (many of whom are Aboriginal) to carry out emergency repairs to make their homes safe. CMHC covers the cost of materials and labour. Among the repairs classified as emergency are those to heating systems, chimneys, doors and windows, foundations, plumbing and electrical systems.
